In a significant step towards combating breast cancer in Benin, Gate Charity successfully hosted the “Gate Charity Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Event” on 27 October 2024, at J.Reside Cotonou in Benin. Coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event underscored the critical importance of early detection and education in the fight against one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide.

The event catered specifically to the local needs where access to affordable healthcare and preventive services remains a challenge. By offering free screening services, Gate Charity empowered many women to take proactive steps toward their health without the burden of financial constraints.

The day commenced with a warm welcome session, followed by educational talks from esteemed health professionals. These talks covered a range of topics including the risk factors, symptoms of breast cancer, and the crucial role of early detection. Demonstrations on how to perform a self-breast examination were a key feature, providing women with the knowledge to monitor their own health.

Highlighting the success of the event, at least 45 women benefited from the free breast cancer screenings provided. The participants also gained invaluable insights and practical knowledge on self-examinations and were informed about local healthcare services for continuous support and follow-up.

The sharing of personal stories by survivors added a poignant touch to the day, inspiring and motivating all present. This testimonial session was not just about sharing struggles, but also about celebrating victories over breast cancer.

Thanks to the collaboration with local health institution ABPF, which came forward to support this noble cause with health professionals and necessary screening equipment, the event was a resounding success.
